DRAFT BASIC ASSESSMENT REPORT FOR PUBLIC COMMENT
The draft Basic Assessment Report (BAR), which was made available for comment on this website on 19 January 2022 for the Proposed New Bulk Outfall Sewer in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, is the subject of this notification. The 30-day commenting period on the draft BAR commenced on 19 January 2022 and was to close on 18 February 2022.
The draft BAR has been amended to correct inaccuracies in the motivation and alternatives sections of the BAR. The amended draft BAR is available on this page for perusal.
In light of these changes to the draft BAR and to ensure a reasonable opportunity for comment, the Public Participation Process is being extended by seven days and will close on 25 February 2022. Please use the channels listed below to comment and/or register as an Interested and Affected Party.
The City of Cape Town proposes to construct a new HDPE lined reinforced concrete gravity bulk outfall sewer around the eastern and northern boundaries of the Montague Gardens Industrial area.
An application has been submitted for environmental authorisation to undertake activities in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (107 of 1998) and EIA Regulations (GNR 326 of 2017):
- Activity 12 of Listing Notice 3 (GN 324 of 2017), the clearance of an area of 300 square metres or more of indigenous vegetation within any critically endangered or endangered ecosystem
An application has been submitted for a water use licence in terms of sections 39 and 40 of the National Water Act, 1998, for water uses in terms of sections 21(c) and (i) of the Act.
A public participation process will commence on Wednesday 19 January 2022. Interested and affected parties (I&APs) are invited to comment or to register for further updates. The Draft Basic Assessment Report and draft Water Use Licence Application Report are available for download below or in hard copy on request from the Environmental Assessment Practitioner at the details below. When registering or commenting, I&APs must provide their name, contact details, and an indication of any direct business, financial, personal or other interest which they have in the application. The 30-day registration and commenting period for the BAR will end on Friday 18 February 2022.
The 60-day registration and commenting period for the WULA report will end on Tuesday 22 March 2022.
