PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESS NOTICE FOR THE DRAFT CONCEPT DESIGN OF KING LANGALIBALELE DRIVE
PROJECT RATIONAL
The City of Cape Town's Urban design branch has initiated the Langa Living Streets project to develop a coherent vision for public realm and streetscape interventions in Langa. The initiative focuses on unlocking and activating the road reserve, street edges and surrounding public environment, while strengthening transversal coordination across City departments. The Langa Living Streets seeks to establish an integrated vision for Langa's central activity spine by identifying and prioritising opportunities for high quality public places and publicly led interventions.
King Langalibalele Drive was selected by the City of Cape Town as the first project for concept design. The concept design looks at ways to create safe and comfortable walkways, celebrate local culture and heritage, add more greenery and improve movement and safety in the area. The draft concept designs were informed by contextual analysis, heritage, inputs from stakeholder workshops and the school engagements.
